I had the pleasure of seeing, hearing and meeting some of the originators of Rockabilly, including Buddy Knox, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, the FireBalls. At one time I even had setup an audition to play for Knox, but it fell through and he never heard me pick. I recorded in the orignal N.Petty Studio in 1964, the same studio where Holly cut his rockabilly. In 1969 Petty offered to produce one of my original songs, but I stupidly declined his offer! After forty plus years of listening, playing, writing and recording music...I think the orignal rockabilly music that Elvis did with Scotty and Bill was the most exciting music ever made! After Elvis went to Hollywood that original sound was lost by overproduction. Finally, I once lived in a rooming house where the noted Memphis DJ once lived, I can't recall his last name. His moniker was...Sleepy Eyed John. If anyone has any info on John, please write me. I especially want to know his last name!
