I had the pleasure of seeing, hearing and meeting some of the originators of Rockabilly, including Buddy Knox, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, the FireBalls. At one time I even had setup an audition to play for Knox, but it fell through and he never heard me pick. I recorded in the orignal N.Petty Studio in 1964, the same studio where Holly cut his rockabilly. In 1969 Petty offered to produce one of my original songs, but I stupidly declined his offer! After forty plus years of listening, playing, writing and recording music...I think the orignal rockabilly music that Elvis did with Scotty and Bill was the most exciting music ever made! After Elvis went to Hollywood that original sound was lost by overproduction. Finally, I once lived in a rooming house where the noted Memphis DJ once lived, I can't recall his last name. His moniker was...Sleepy Eyed John. If anyone has any info on John, please write me. I especially want to know his last name!

My CD of "The Rockin' Rockabilly" will most likely go out in the mail today or tomorrow. I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to have someone in your area to listen to my material. I recorded several 45pms in the old days as I was being produced by Bill Black at the time of his death. The Shadows and I had some regional hits and some success in England. As I look back our independent label didn't report us as we were a notch below Bill's Combo and some of the HI Record folks. I had a good record started in 69 entitled "East Of Tulsa" but Bill's replacement, Larry Rogers took Sammi Smith and "Help Me Make It Through The Night" and moved to Nashville leavin the Lyn-Lou sudios there in Memphis pretty naked. I had some number one songs on a few stations and the giant picked up "East Of Tulsa" until they found out I was a school principal only thirty miles away. I did gert programmed with Larry Dean at KXJR and all the sister stations. I made the WSM shows with Ralph Emery and Grant Turner. They really treated me well and if I never have a national hit that period was very rewarding and so much fun to an old country boy. I made life long friends with the late Floyd Cramer, the late Bob Luman, Joe Stampley, Ernie Ashworth, the late David Houston, Maxine Brown and a lot of nice folks. A lot of the Rockabillies I know from backing them at The Arkansas Opry. I don't think I have written or recorded my best song yet and that's the fun of it all these days with Bob Timmers helping me at The Rockabilly Hall as I am a member. I have begun to get known in The Netherlands some lately and getting people over there to ask for CDs or to listen to my internet radio weekly and gospel show is sure rewarding and exciting. I have to program mine and friends permissioned.unpublishedon or not linked and that has been a hardship but I just write a fresh song when I need to. It is my desire to get all of my songs on CD before I "conk". My son, Alan is more talented than me, but I have more desire and courage I think. I just wrote an interesting song "Rockabilly Baby" mentioning a lot of people who have passed on and most of them my friend. Bob Luman was my idol and asked me to do "A Red Cadillac & A Black Mustache" back in 71. I just never did it, started helping Dixie Harrison in her career, Bob was gone so it took me until 2002 to do it.
