I'm writing to inform you that the band BOVINE is no longer...we are all very sad, but singer and lead guitarist, Pat Bova has started a new band called The Long Gonners. They are playing mostly rockabilly covers and some great originals. If and when they decide to tour, I will email you the information. Thanks

I've been searching rockabilly for a while. Why come today was the first day I found this site?
I thought your website was a great resource for rockabilly music!! One of the bands I'm promoting right now are fusing rockabilly with swing music of the thirties and forties, creating a unique style called "LOUNGE-A-BILLY". The name of the band is THE VEGAS LORDS!! If you're ever in the Southern New England area, drop in on one of their gigs. You can see gig announcements on our website. Maybe some of the other artists linked to this site could collaborate with us sometime!!
Happy I found you site. I am in a band that plays rockabilly, 50's rock, and blues. Could you please send me a pretty firm definition of the meaning of "rockabilly." The reason I ask is that other friends I have spoken to have different ideas about what rockabilly music stands for. My band pretty much feels if it's a song that our bass player can thump the strings on that stand up bass, and I play that rockabilly type back beat on the drums then were doing the rockabilly thing. I really enjoy the sound, and I love the "rockabilly" songs were playing. Just want to get more educated about what rockabilly really is. If you walk into a music store and ask for the "rockabilly section", then you'll find that it doesn't exist. They just tell me to go look in the "rock" section. Please help. Thanks, Perry

Great page - always loved rockabilly - currently have Gene Vincent screaming away in the old CD player while I'm working (well, they THINK I'm working!) Anyhow - gotta catch some of the bands you list when I'm in the midwest - used to catch these guys - "the flaming caucasians" in Philly back in the 1980's - great R&B / Rockabilly - then there were the "ash cats" (a Philly "stray cats" knockoff band) ... also played axe in a couple bands - got some gigs - nice to see the REAL MUSIC is still appreciated! Thanks Steve

Excellent site. How about a regional or state show schedule for all of the bands on your site? For example, I'd like to be able to click on (that hellhole) Wisconsin and see what shows are coming up in the next month or so. . . because I will travel for good rocknroll.

Question? Why do you not have Danny Gatton or The Hellecasters, on the band list. Any guitarist that trying anything remote to rockabilly has to have them in there roots. I beleive it is hellecasters.com and dannygatton.com. Please not enough guitarists listen or know anything about these cats.

Whhoooo! All right! God bless rockabilly and the creators of this site for giving us so much info about some of the best in the biz. Gotta say though, if you're gonna include Little Richard (who is awesome, but I'm not sure he has enough country in 'im to qualify as rockabilly) then you gotta include Jerry Lee Lewis too!

I've been dancing for years...traveled for a long while and when I came back...the places that I knew of had closed down. Any suggestions???

Rock n it loud and proud for the crowd
This site is boss! There's so many different links to websites I probably wouldn't have stumbled upon easily! You have alot of bands to look up on and see about which is good! I noticed you don't have The Polecats on the non-us bands list. You should put them up because people who haven't heard of them would be able to obtain some info....same goes for guana batz, the cramps.
Even here you can find some rockabilly fans. If only we had more bands. Thak God for the internet.
so tell me what you're all about.
great website! Do you know of any websites like this from the Midwest?
Just wanted to let the artist/band community out there to know we're always open to music submissions. We cover a listening area of 8 million locally, broadcast nationally via the Starchoice Satellite Network and worldwide on the web. Each week our charts are submitted to CMJ as a core reporting station. ALL music is catalogued and made available to all programmers. I'm stranded in the midwest until February and I'd love to find people to have fun with. I'm into music, cars, tattoos and living in the fast lane. I'd like to meet guys and gals who want to go out and cause trouble and have fun while we're at it.

My first time on your site, though my wife may have been here, since I was referred to this part of the site by the search function. I checked The Blue Suede News link and it must be to a previous site location since it didn't work. Need to figure out how to get your link onto our links page! Between the mag and gigs I don't have a lot of time for updating my site, sorry for not having put it together sooner. And thanks for maintaining a central rockabilly info location.
Hi, I`m currently an English teacher in Japan, and I notice you don`t have any Japanese bands on your site! Rockabilly was in vogue in Japan about 10 years ago, but there are still bands around. My favorite Japanese rockabilly band is called Jitterin` Jinn. Check them out! http://Jit-teR.com
I LOVE your site!! I'm a fan of rockabilly and old skool country music all of my 23 years, and was excited to check out bands that I hadn't heard of. I live in Cincy, and we don't get too many rockabilly bands that come for shows...So I had an idea-I could get one together!! Has anyone done this before? I figure I just need a hall, bands, liquor, and people. (Oh, and money). If anyone wants to send me an email about it, it would be much appreciated!! :)
Will be in Chicago from nov 22 to nov 26. Anything I shouldn't miss. Any under 21 clubs? Especially latin and swing?

I will be doing the show honoring the late Cliffie Stone at Hart Park in Newhall, Ca. on the 2nd of Sept., 2001. I recently found out one of my old singles (Mona Lisa) has been picked up by a Holland Record company and is on one of their compilations. It's either recordcollector.com or collectorrecords.com something like that. I miss performing at The Palomino in North Hollywood. It has been turned into a fancy schmantzy joint of some kind.
Cool site.
Hey. We're just polishing up a site dedicated to the "Brush Creek Follies," a live barn dance program that was broadcast over Kansas City's KMBC every saturday night from the late '30s through the '50s. The material comes from the Marr Sound Archives (where I work when I'm not going to school) here at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Though not rockabilly, it's loaded with great pictures, groovy sound clips, and even some astounding footage. The address is: http://www.umkc.edu/lib/spec-col/Follies/index.html Hope you enjoy it, and let me know what you think. Cheers, Scott

We had a great time on the blues cruise, I especially enjoyed the picture with all of you. I was the lucky one that you allowed to hold the guitar. The Cascadez has 15 FREE mp3-tracks on the site. The only thing we ask in return is that sign our guestbook. Our style is a mix between The Blasters, Johnny Cash, Crazy Cavan and Jerry Lee Lewis. Also feel free to mail me about anything about rockabilly .
Love this place!! Let's Bop!

Favorite bands/artists: Ronnie Dawson, King Memphis, Johnny and the Blades, Sleepy LaBeef, Stray Cats, Barnshakers, BR5 - 49, The Dusty 45's and (of course) early Elvis.
this is a rockin site. i found it by looking for info. on the southern backtones. a few years back a friend of mine walked into a bar in a town not far from here. this band was playing, of course he fell in love and purchased a tape. when he skipped town he left it in my truck so its mine now....so, all i have is a bad recording on a warn out tape from 1995. you under stand ive searched before and come up with nothing. i am now glad to see that the boys are still making beautiful music.
This site is information overload. Any other cats new to the Chicago scene should check out holler-zine.com Swing high

Is there a decent site selling rockin clothing in the UK. If so could you let me know at nikki@nwarren58.fsnet.co.uk
first of all, great site! but about this claim "all of the roots bands in usa listed here"... thats not even possible! i admit most of the ones i was gonna call you on were in the disorganized "more bands" section, but where's the ghastly ones (my favorite haunted surf act)? i don't think i saw the cigar store indians on there... and what about the still active (live anyway) robert gordon, and the cramps for that matter? still and all, absolutely invaluable site...
Check out Germany´s Punk`n`Roll Band DIE CHINESISCHEN GLÜCKSKEKSE! Rockin`since 1986.

Just saw Brian Setzer in Chicago - Unbelievable show -The Trip Daddy's opened. Earlier a lifelong dram was fulfilled when after 18 years I finally met Brian, shook that gifted hand of his, got an autograph, picture, and wonderful conversation.....By the way you might want to add the Twistin' Tarantulas to you band list for the Detroit area fans - the won't be disappointed...

Wow! what a summer! The Velvet Elvis has been on a rockabilly road tour. VE did Viva and can't wait til next year, but it didn't stop there. We set up at the Rockabilly Rebel Weekender in Indianapolis and met some wonderful folks. A week later we were cruising into Winston Salem for the first annual Heavy Rebel Weekender and what a gas that was. Kudos to Mike Martin and Dave Quick for their unselfish undertaking. On Aug 11th Del has booked us to sell at the first Motor City Spin Out and we can't wait! None of the flyers mention that the vendors will be set up at the Royal Oak Theatre from the get-go so I'm warnin' y'all to bring extra cash or be ready to put that card in the ATM machine because we have some fabulous duds, hot rod mags and accoutrements. We're sure the other vendors are gonna rock. I know Keith from Cat's Meow right there in Royal Oak will be setting up. Had a great talk with him the other day while I was caressing Clash shirts at his shop. I"m just so bloody glad there's a rockabilly festival in our neck of the woods. I can't wait to meet the people who wondered where our stores(the Velvet Elvis and the Lobby Emporium) went because we miss our customers from Detroit, Ontario and Ann Arbor. It'l be great to see you on August 11th.
Good site. Glad to have found it.
for a couple of years now I've been taking lessons in life from Rich,Vincent and other healthy, stand-up role models. me and some friends are about to get a new rockvenue going in malmo(south of sweden) and will be interested in hearing from any band passing through

Howdy from New Zealand, (head to Antarctica and head north a few thousand km's). Any chance you boys are gonna head down this way- We love ya!!. We need more Rockabilly, hillbilly western swing - c'mon.
Howdy, out there. I'm just now becoming very interested in the rockabilly lifestyle, ever since I discovered Kim Lenz, Rev Horton Heat & some others. So is there any scene at all in Orange County, CA? I'm interested to talk with anyone around here who may want to hang out, etc. I'm 32 and giving up the Goth scene after 16 years because it ain't going anywhere...excuse the pun, but it's becoming a dead scene...
Heya folks! Just thought Id let you know that I put your banner on my site. Come check it out some time. You have a fantastic site yourself. Keep it up. Paulie C.

Cool Site
I have recently started to get into rockabilly music such as Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, and The Clash; as well as surf music like The Ventures and Dick Dale and the Delltones. I play guitar and am planning on fusing these two genres somehow, while mixing it up with a punk beat, to create a cool style of music. Maybe "Swinging Surfabilly from another time" would be a cool label. Maybe.
hey

I'd like to buy the world a Coke@, and teach it how to brush it's teeth at 70 mph, without getting any onya.

We play traditional roots, modern rockabilly, and a touch of blues. We have played with the Paladins (our biggest influence) and the Red Elvises (not our biggest influence).

Rockabilly music is like a train sometimes. Or like a rope swing in the moonlight over water I rockabilly when I can I hold my best girls hand and man It's all I can do to keep from flying apart When that wax is stacked up and spinning out of my heart So I walk through downtown Memphis in the rain And the wind is a screamin' "rockabilly train!"
This is a great site for rockabillies...layout could uses some minor adjustments.

Dear Rockabilly Central, I would just like to thank you guys for posting all this info for kids like me to browse through. I play the stand-up bass and recently my instructor handed me a stack of music to work on over the summer. i looked through it and saw a page titled Rockabilly Slap Bass. I had no idea what Rockabilly was. I watched VH1 and saw a behind the music on the stray cats. I loved it. I wanted to learn more about this music. I began buying Cd's. Then i began to learn how to slap. Then i wanted to make a band. I realized that there are other elements to a rockabilly group. I got my friends into the music. We all love it and are trying to start a group. With time and practice i hope our efforts are succesful. I would once again like to thank you on your time spent on this website so that another 13 year old kid can do this same thing, thanks. Tyler "Thriller" Eaton
