Comments:   I was in a band called the USELESS PLAYBOYS from 90-94. We covered "Trapped In The Web Of Love", "Lover Come Back", and "Get Outa The Car". When we played those tunes people lost their minds. At the the end of "Lover Come Back" our bass player would go into this Micky and Sylvia bit about "how I call my lovergirl". I would pull this rubber heart out of my suit jacket and go "I just simply say....and then launch into the end, lover come back, lover come back to me.. Man that was some funny swingin madness. We did a lot of goofy stuff like that. It all came from stories I heard my dad tell me about his Wildwood days and being in the service with one of the Trenier bros. He would travel alot and catch the shows in other towns as well. I'm still playing shows and all the credit goes to my Pop and The Treniers. If I wasn't gigging so much I could come see Milt do his thing. Maybe He could make a trip to Atlanta sometime. I've got some smokin players to back him up. Aloha and Mahalo, Big Mike

Comments:   hi milt, i'm not sure if i ever met you, but i knew you brothers claude and buddy through buddy's daughter lisa hassett who was station at lemoore ca, naval air station. I was 11 years old when i met buddy and i became a instant hit with him. he always told me someday i needed to come to las vegas to show case my singin talent with him, bu t that someday was too late due to his death. I have never recovered over the fact i will never get the chance to sing on stage with buddy my best friend and mentor. But i've had an idea for quite sometime that i would like to due a tribute show in honnor of your brother and your group to pay homage to your guy's legacy, and most of all too not let the memory go of them all. I would like to get wayne newton and other friends of buddy's together to remember the group, the music. for people to enjoy. I can't think of a better wsy to celebrate the life, the music and legend behind the treniers. if you can help me please contact me i would love to hear from you! thank you!cynthia mclaughlin

Comments:   Mr. Trnier, My grandmother lived on Baker Ave. (in Wildwood) in 1930's-1960's. I believe your family (mom? aunt?) lived around the corner. I would often walk by the house and see the "fancy" cars parked in front. Please confirm if that is true. I just love your music and always enjoyed THE TRENIERS.

Comments:   Growing up in Chicago in the 1940s and 1950s, and playing tenor sax in the 1950s, I developed a love of hard-driving rhythm n'blues. My favorites were Red Prysock, Sil Austin, and Earl Bostic, and I loved several vocal groups, too, including Louis Prima and Keely Smith, Louis Jordan, and The Treniers. Later, I met and heard Milt Trenier in Chicago. That was a thrill for me! I'm glad I found Milt's web site and guestbook online tonight.

They had a condo that my daddy-o built back in 1961 in Isla Verde. I was brought into the scene at birth in 1966. I remember always parties and music, music and music. They are gone now and I am trying to understand what my memories are. I remember we had little figurines to put on sheet cakes and they were THE TRANIERS with all the instruments. It was a magical world to be raised in and I am a music lover. IT WOULD BE GREAT TO KNOW IF YOU OF THEM. PEACE, LOVE AND LIGHT, Thank you, Evika

If you missed the ad, you were out of luck! One of my memories, from when I was very young, was an autographed can of "Poontang" my father cherished. Eventually, I realized what was going on with the can!My father is in a nursing home at the moment. If/when he comes home, I will have him add his memories to this site.Thank You, Mark

Comments:   I'm 71 years old and have been a fan of the Treniers ever since I saw them in Wildwood in the late 50s. I have seen many many enternaiers in my life but never any I would rate up there with them. They were a very special act who had the knack of making every show special. They made you feel like they really enjoyed every moment they were performing. I couldnt wait until I could take my children to see them at resorts in Atlantic City just to show them what a great act really was all about and then my grand children later on. And as as great as they were they never stopped mingling with the customers and made you feel special. I'll never forget sitting at the bar in the Hurricane Bar in Wildwood, NJ and Milt was sitting 2 seats away when Bill Haley, who was playing across the street with a country western group, stopped over to listen to the Treniers. He asked Milt what they called the music they played and if he could possibly get a copy of an arrangment, so make no doubt about it they were not just great entertainers, they were the first rock and roll band to play Wildwood. I doubt if any group could ever duplicate them. It's terrific that you're keeping the legend going, sure hope you make it to this part of the country some time.

Comments:   I was doing some private corporate shows at the Holiday Inn near the " Loop " for some conventioneers , with the shows done and two weeks off and a pocket full of cash in Chicago and I'm burning to hit the club scene and taste it , feel it and live it , this is one of my musical adventures while in Chicago on my first visit to that todling windy town in 1993 . Spring time - - - , 1st day of spring and two feet of snow ! I was with my cousin walking back from a posh Jazz club and had done really well playing all sorts of Jazz type standards with my diatonic with some of Chicago's cutting edge players and was on a cloud while strolling towards the hotel , as we came up to it I realized we had taken a different route back to the hotel and we were standing outside " Milt Treniers Lounge " I believe was how it read outside of this " basement " night club on the sign painted on the building's side about the entrance . I looked at my cousin and said " do you know who the Trenier Bros. are ? he did not , I said " man these guys are part of the whole Rock-N-Rool scene from it's earliest beginnings from the mid to late 1940's , he was not impressed ( he makes me mad because he's a dynomite musician and doesn't know anything about anyone in the music scene outside of the Beatles and the whole pop scene from the 60's& 70's , tunnel vision man tunnel vision , oh , and I like the Beatles:) . Down we walked into a really " sweet cozy & warm " little Pub/Night Club " scene and seated ourselves , it was a Wednesday and " Jam Night " well , I was hot and ready and the music director was " Jimmy Wright " , another heavy weight Jazz / BLues sax man , Jimmy Wright , a superb tenor sax player and a really nice man and gent . We hit it off big time on stage that night and the end result was when he called " Mr. " Milt Teinier himself to come to table , when he arrived he invited me to sit in on Friday . - - WOW ,WOW ,WOW ,WOW ,WOW ,WOW ,WOW - - That's all I could say inside my head and all the way ( a block ) back to the hotel , up the elevator and into my room . I could not believe I was going to be on stage with him in his own club in Chicago . . Not bad for a country boy from the south ( my southern California rural agriculture community qualifies me there to say that :) . Jimmy informed me it was not his night to play there since he had another gig on fridays so he wished me well and I did the same to him and I left the club with my cousin in tow walking back to the hotel . Friday I hit the club and what a scene , man the place was packed with some of the best dressed people I have ever seen , and the room was filled with really fine looking ladies . I was told before hand to check in with " Bubba Mitchel " by both Jimmy Wright & Milt when I arrived . " What's Bubba Mitchel look like " I asked , they both smiled and said at the same time " he'll be the one with the most women at his table heh heh . True to form I found him with some of the prettiest ladies there at the club , Bubba Mitchel was 62 then ! Once I introduced myself , he said " I was waiting for you to come in , I heard your blow a mean harp " . Responding to him in humble manner I said " I hope I don't disappoint you . He smiled and said , I call you up after the first set , then we see what happens . All I said was " what ever is easy man just give me the { key } and we're rolling " . He smiled and I checked out the first set , wasn't anything there they played I could not follow , man did Bubba play his (at) $$ off ! . After the set was finished my cousin and Bubba and all his " lady friends " sat and chatted and Bubba rolled out the 2nd. set list to me and the keys , I was ready Teddy ! Then up on stage together we roll out all sorts of Louie Jordan , Fats Domino , T-Bone Walker ,and Willie Dixon material it was sooooo goooooood , I was on proverbial "cloud 9 " the crowd was awesome , they got into this stuff deep and showed there appreciation ( $$$ tips ) . About 2/3 thirds into the set " The Man Milt " himself gets on stage and he just rips up the crowd and had the band fired up and really grooving hard a fast at times and then it just smoldered thick and sweet like it can in Chicago music . The last song of the set was : " Nobody Knows You When Your Down and Out " circa 1924 baby ! ! You got to realize Milt is the consummate performer working the crowd and when that song came up he had his own special way of throwing down on it that was the greatest version I have ever heard and much more to be a part of . When the verse : " If I get my hands on a dollar again " He stopped and the band did as well , the tension was sooo thick as he looked all across the room at the clientele , fierce was his expression and then after the silence , the band and and Milt played it again the same verse : " If I get my hands on a dollar again " The look on Milts face was fierce and determined , on that second break he started again on that phrase , and as he did the money ( mostly one dollar bills ) came flying on stage from every conceivable direction . As this went down and Milt began to sing he also was picking up those bills as they flew literally on stage . I realized it was time to be a showman too so , knowing full well what Milt was going to do I began to " pocket " the cash too while before hand " winking " at Milt when we made eye contact just before I started making the "grab " fo dee cash . It was a riot heh heh Milt with the mic in one hand and collecting money with the other and body checking me so he got between the money and me saying over the mic as the band played : " Hey fool , this is maa club , maa band , maa stage and MAA MONEY SUCKER ! ! " . The place went crazy , wow'd em we did along that little showman stunt :) Set over - - Enter a schooling for Hurricane via Bubba Mitchel - We all talked ( Milt , Bubba & I ) about how well the improv was and I was invited to play the rest of the night and drinks were " free " for myself and my cousin . 3rd. set : No fooling I was at the top of my game that night , looked like I had been practicing with the band it went sooooo smooth , and as I was taking a really long heavy lead run ( of many that night mind you ) and got the crowd nutzo I was relishing the spot light and the glory ( wow I can't believe it's me doing this in Chicago type mentality ) I took a bow and as I did this with eyes closed and sweating like a stuck pig . I began clearing my eyelids of the sweat to open them with out feeling my eyes sting . I heard the crowd go absolutely crazy crazier that anything that night including what Milt had done with myself on the " Down And Out " song , more crazier than many of the great applause I had received that ( with out trying to brag man this is what happened ) had people pounding on tables while on stage with the band and Bubba and Milt . I mean to tell ya I was shocked at new louder noise level , when I opened my eyes and looked to see what Bubba was doing , because , he was soloing now and as I said Bubba is one major dude ! There before my eyes was Bubba ripping lead lines and - - RIPPING HIS SILK SHIRT OFF HIS BACK ! He ripped it and threw it in pieces to the stage floor and into the crowd ! ! People were howling and screaming slamming drinking glasses on the table , they were slamming chairs against each other and - - you get the picture - - . As I watched this man put on this display like no other I ever saw , he was looking at my face that was painted in the colour of disbelief and Bubba , he was smiling at me all the while . Conclusion : We sat all together at Bubba's table as the band got paid ( them not me ;) when the smoke had cleared talking with Bubba framed with two fine ladies ( ooh what knock outs they were ) we joked about the shirt bit , and he then said : " hell man you ain't the only hitter comes in that I have to reclaim my respect on stage over " he then confided " I go to the thrift stores and find moth eating silks for guys just like you " I then asked how he got the gig with Milt there in the first place , he then told me that on a night like this one he came in like I did and smoked up the place , and , that he was really hard pressed for work and wanted to gig really bad and was out looking for work and he had just purchased a " wireless " mic set up and was about the city hoping to get work . He said when playing at the Milt's that first night he got a " conga line " of people following him around the club , eventually that night he ventured outside the club climbing the stairs with people following him out the door to the above street where you walk in from . There close to the entrance was a CTA bus stop and he got on the buss ! ! Anyone who ever rode a buss knows you can't play a ghetto blaster out loud on a buss and that includes musical instruments too ! ! ! Bubba made the 11:00 PM news ----- because he was arrested and taken to jail . Milt's Club was maxed out soon after the news hit TV. Milt goes to the city jail and bails out Bubba . Bubba becomes a regular fixture at Milt's . When I heard this story I was astonished to say the least and had a whole new outlook at showmanship as I was schooled by the best in one " BUBBA MITCHEL " that unforgettable night for this southern Cal guy :) Sincerely : Hurricane Ramón

Comments:   Milt Trenier- what a great guy & band leader!! I played saxophone with Milt back in the mid 70's. Milt was one of the most honest leaders I ever worked with.Gave the people and the club their moneys worth and always 1000%. I always respected Milt, and learned a lot from him via the business of music, as well as the right things to do to stay working. Milt was a unwritten text book of great street knowledge and....SOUL. I'm so glad to see Milt is doing well, and still doing his thing. He was always the best leader as far as taking care of business and he always paid the musicians well AND on time. A beautiful classy human being, and great singer. Not to mention...a funny dude who influenced a lot of major comedians. Milt- keep on doing it. Memorys of working with you are fond and you taught me a lot. I'll never forget the soulflness you and Bea treated me with. I'm still doing it too. Check my website at; www.timpricejazz.com. Comments: I had performed with Milt Trenier's Band, singing Elvis songs; this was when Milt had his own night club over on Ontario & Fairbanks, called: Milt Trenier's Lounge.

In addition, I have my own little neighborhood license free radio station called: "Super Rabbit Radio" in which that I occasionally broadcast on 91.1-FM and AM-600 just as an small partime hobby that I do every so often.

As for my other Hobby, I like to sing and play the guitar, by doing home made recordings, onto a CD recorder making my very own CD albums for my self; and as well my little small radio station.

I love Milt Trenier because he reminds me of my Uncle, who had passed awhile back; his name was George Hicks. I love Milt Trenier's verson of: Rock Beatin' Boogie...

Comments: Hello Milt, Approximately 8 to 10 years ago, I visited your club. I believe it was located in the Loop's Holiday Inn. Frogive me if I am wrong. Well, to make a long story short, guess who brought me to see you? A band member from years ago... His picture is on the lounge's wall... He once played bass with the band... Harold George Jackson! I call him Uncle Harold because my Father, Bennie Simmons and Uncle Harold grew up together and have remained best friends to this very day. I remember the times when The Treniers were on the Ed Sullivan Show and there was a great article about the band in the Ebony Magazine which I still have. If you E-Me back, please let me know the address of your lounge. I would like to vist again sometime soon. Take Care and May G-D Bless you and your Family. Sincerely, Marie

Comments: I am pleased to make your acquaintance. I live and work in Washington, DC, but I am from Mobile, Alabama. I read in some places that you were from Chicago. However, my family and some of the Treniers in Mobile tell me different. I am currently working with the Mobile Tricentennial Celebration: Mobile's 300th Anniversary (1702-2002). Part of this year-long celebration will include an African American Time Line Exhibit over 300 years. This exhibit will be housed in the City of Mobile's Museum of History in November, and will focus on a number of persons, places, and things pertaining to Mobile. I am providing research for the African American Time Line, and am putting together to submit information about the history of the Trenier Twins. Although I am too young to have shared the early days of the Treniers, I am certainly not too young to connect you to your "roots". Let me hear from you.

Hey Milt! Just wanted to say thanks for letting me sit in over at Karizma. Most fun I've had in a long time. I think I was born about 20 years too late - I really love jump blues. I'm so I glad I dropped in to check you out in Mundelein. Meeting and playing with "originals" like you and Bubba has been a real privilege. Thanks again, I'll be sure and catch you at Karizma and Dover Straits. Take care Ernie

Hi Milt: I am an old Wildwood drummer. I hung out with my old pal Tucker Green, and still call Don "Duck" Hill my friend and look in on the group when they are in AC. I have your old 33rpm recorded at Caesar's in Vegas w/ Mickie Lynn. I was a big fan of brother Buddy and "I could have told you" and "I Could Write a Book" I haven't had the opportunity to see you, since Chicago club closed. I used to stay at the hotel just so I could get a front row seat. I always thought that Cliff was one of the funniest men around. I knew Gene and Jimmy Johnson. I would certainly like to get some more recordings by you. If you could give me a clue I would get them. Live long and well Bob Jones (John L. C.)

Is there a number to for bookings? I suggest you add that to your site. I'm sure you would get a number of bookings if you had contact numbers and addresses available. Thanx, take care. Miss ya' man and I sure hope to see U soon. would love to hear from you. Keep Swingin' Baby, Terry Thompson

I never fail to have a good time when I get to see Milt, Bubba and company play in the Chicago area. It's just not possible to sit still. I always have to clap along and stomp my feet with the music. Milt's a great performer and surrounds himself with some excellant musicians. I saw him perform last December at the Note in Chicago. Bubba threw back his trademark shot out of his sax. He also had a female guest vocalist come up and do a song. She had a wonderful voice. Everyone had fun! If you've never seen Milt perform, you're missing out on a great time!

Love your music - My search has re-kindled my love of the music from the early days of Rock and Roll. Thanks.
